Vitamins 101

Nutrition: Current State of Affairs

In today's world, unfortunately Americans are not getting the proper nutrition they need from their food for several reasons. The nutritional value of food has declined due to overprocessing, chemical spraying of crops, hormones injected into cows to produce more milk, and cultural changes in the country towards eating out more which is less healthy vs. cooking at home. This has all lead to less nutritious meals overall as well as a deficiency in the amount of vitamins and nutrients found in our food. Examples of this have been uncovered in several studies conducted on the subject. According to a study conducted by the CDC in 2010 in Boston, more than half of infants were Vitamin D deficient, and more than 38% were considered extremely deficient. (Source: Journal of Pediatrics.) Even formula-fed infants getting less than 1,000 ML (33 ounces of formula) need to receive Vitamin D supplementation to meet the minimal requirement daily. It is estimated that 85-95% of infants are not receiving the Vitamin D daily recommendation. Older children, as well, are recommended to get 400 IU of Vitamin D3 per day. In comparison, 8 ounces of milk contains only 100 IU of Vitamin D3. Therefore a child would have to drink at least 32 ounces of milk per day to meet the 400 IU recommended daily. In addition, certain diseases have consistently increased year over year in our adult population, such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.

This begs the question, how are parents supposed to ensure that their children are getting the proper amounts of vitamins and nutrients per day? As diligent, concerned, and caring as they may be, it is almost impossible for these parents to help their children reach these recommended nutritional requirements. And as adults, how are we to ensure that our nutritional needs are being met on a daily basis in our busy, fast paced lives?

That is how the rise and popularity of nutritional supplements came into play. Doctors are now recommending that parents "supplement" their children's diets with high quality, "GMP standard" approved vitamins...as well as themselves as a preventative measure to ensure they get adequate nutrition in their daily lives. However, not all vitamins are equal in quality. It is important to do your research when it comes to choosing the right nutritional supplments and vitamins for your and your family.

The AlloAlts Vitamins Difference

AlloAlts is short for "Allopathic Alternatives." The word "Allopathic" refers to the type of physician that we commonly associate with treating disease, i.e. Medical Doctors (MDs) vs. Osteopathic doctors (DOs.) And the word "Alternatives" refers to the current and we believe, positive trend in the medical field that is slowly but surely "bridging the gap" between traditional medicine and preventative medicine in the form of nutritional supplements and vitamins. The AlloAlts vitamin line was originally formulated to assist physicians in their practice, by providing a GMP standard, safe, line of nutritional supplements that can be used hand in hand with prescribed patient care.

What Does GMP stand for and what does it mean?

Good manufacturing practice (GMP) is a system for ensuring that products are consistently produced and controlled according to quality standards. It is designed to minimize the risks involved in any pharmaceutical production that cannot be eliminated through testing the final product. The main risks are: unexpected contamination of products, causing damage to health or even death; incorrect labels on containers, which could mean that patients receive the wrong medicine; insufficient or too much active ingredient, resulting in ineffective treatment or adverse effects. GMP covers all aspects of production; from the starting materials, premises and equipment to the training and personal hygiene of staff. Detailed, written procedures are essential for each process that could affect the quality of the finished product. There must be systems to provide documented proof that correct procedures are consistently followed at each step in the manufacturing process - every time a product is made.

AlloAlts Vitamins are made in the U.S., follow GMP Standards, and have been carefully formulated based on their efficacy, purity, compatibility and dosing strengths. As a company, Allopathic Alternatives is dedicated to providing safe, effective, directed nutritional supplementation with physician involvement to improve the health and well being of individuals.

Most importantly, adequate dosing of vitamins and supplements must be done under the supervision of physicians. Allopathic Alternatives offers physicians the opportunity to sell AlloAlts Vitamins in their private practices to their patients along with recommendations for usage.
